Uniformity of school run earns kudos

THE school run isn't easy - especially when you're just out of prison, there's a court hearing at 2pm, and someone just drove past doing a rude hand gesture.

You can sort the lunchbox the night before but a clingfilm-wrapped sandwich doesn't taste any better consumed on the cold upholstery of a Garda car.

Nine o'clock can be merciful: it brings daylight. The warmth of a classroom radiator kicks in and lessons bring a regular rhythm to the hours that follow.

There's a lot less swearing as class and teacher work together through whatever they've to work through together...

When the school run stops and stays at the school gate with just journalists for company, that's grim. And some of my best friends are journalists.
