THE top traits people look for in a dog are affection, intelligence - and being trustworthy around kids.

A poll of 2,000 adults who either have, or would like, a canine, found 21% want their hound to be good with other pets, while 19% insist it has to love cuddles.
More than four in 10 (41%) who would prefer to take home a new dog rather than adopt one, would be put off over concerns about its history, with 31% worried about temperament issues.
