Grand National trailblazer Blackmore calls time on incredible career
PATRICK Mullins led the tributes to Rachael Blackmore after the Tipperary jockey announced her retirement yesterday.
The 35-year-old made international headlines in 2021 when she steered Minella Times to win the Grand National — the first woman to do so in the then 182-year history of the race.
Blackmore said: “My days of being a jockey have come to an end. I feel the time is right.”
Privilege
2025 Grand National winning-jockey Mullins shared a house with Blackmore and her partner Brian Hayes for many years and said it was a “privilege” to see her career develop as it did.
