: Victim was seeking: Gardai probing death in apartment: international protection: Tusla facility attack
GARDAI are to launch a murder inquiry after a teenage boy in State care was stabbed to death in a frenzied attack.
Vadym Davydenko, who was 17, reportedly suffered wounds to his head, eyes, chest and hands following a sustained assault at an apartment in Grattan Wood, Donaghmede, north Dublin, yesterday morning.
The Ukrainian youth, who had been seeking international protection, was attacked in a home under the care of Tusla the State's Child and Family Agency.
Another youth and an adult woman were also injured and both were brought to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
A young man who was transported to hospital with hand injuries is said to be the chief suspect.
It is understood he was to receive treatment before detectives will seek to interview him.
It is also understood that the suspect was initially arrested at the scene after a violent struggle with unarmed gardai who arrived first.
Sources say it is feared that were it not for the actions of those brave members, others could have been seriously hurt or worse.
As of last night, the suspect had not been questioned due to the treatment he was receiving.
Meanwhile, witnesses described hearing "screams" at around 11am, before they saw two distraught women emerging from the building and a young person being carried to an ambulance on a stretcher.
CHAOS
Several neighbours spoke to this paper about what they saw and heard.
One said: "I heard banging. I was in the bedroom and I heard banging around 11am. She [her friend] heard screaming. We have to rearrange childcare arrangements. I can't bring my daughter home to this."
Another neighbour added: "It's shocking. The kids are coming home from school soon. You can't bring the kids home now.
