POWER OUTAGE AT HEATHROW

THOUSANDS more passengers travelling from Ireland could be affected in the coming days following a power outage at Heathrow Airport.

More than 1,000 flights were cancelled to and from the London airport yesterday, including 34 flights to and from Dublin Airport, 14 at Belfast City Airport and six at the City of Derry Airport.

Six flights that were scheduled to land at Heathrow were also diverted to Shannon Airport. These included flights from Boston, Orlando, Newark and Toronto.

imageAround 5,500 Aer Lingus passengers were impacted yesterday, with many showing up to Dublin Airport to find their flight was cancelled.

Kayla Rad, from California, learned her connecting flight from Dublin to Heathrow was cancelled when she landed at the airport yesterday.

She is due to visit family in London until Wednesday, but her trip will be cut short as the next flight she could be booked on is today.

imageHowever, as more cancellations to Heathrow could be on the cards today, the young woman was trying to decide if she would be better off flying to another English airport.

She told The Star: "I had to figure out a new flight but they have booked me a new one [for tomorrow] they have also booked me a hotel for tonight because I don't know anybody here.

"It does cut my trip short in London. I already had a missed flight so it's cut two days off."
