Somali youth to have surgery on hands before Garda interview
GARDAI are keeping a watchful eye on the suspect in the stab murder of a Ukrainian asylum seeker as he undergoes surgery on his hands.
A Somali youth, who is under the age of 18, was initially arrested following the shocking frenzied stabbing of Vadym Davydenko, 17, at an apartment complex in Donaghmede, north Dublin on Wednesday, but was released from custody as he was sent to hospital.
Sources say that yesterday the suspect, who is himself an IPAS applicant, was awaiting surgery on both of his hands from injuries that he sustained during the course of the attack on Vadym.
It comes after he is suspected of stabbing Vadym in the head, eyes, chest and his hands.
The hand injuries on Vadym indicate he was trying to defend himself, sources say.
