Apology over care of horse crush victim
-
A HOSPITAL has apologised for the failures in care to a woman who died in its care five days after she was crushed by a horse.
Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar's message was read to the High Court as Bryonny Sainsbury's family settled five actions against the HSE.
Bryonny was 25 when her horse, who was being seen by a vet, crushed her against a wall on August 26, 2021.
The family's counsel Richard Kean SC, with Esther Earley BL, said it was an "incredibly distressing case".
He added there were a "series of egregious errors" at Midland Regional Hospital and Bryonny was held there for three days before being transferred to Beaumont Hospital Dublin.
Mr Kean said the victim was "delusional, distressed and vomiting" and she and her parents were pleading for help but she was held over and not moved to the specialist Dublin facility.
When she was transferred it was too late and she had to be put on life support in Beaumont Hospital.
Bryonny, of Briskil, Newtownforbes, Co Longford, died from her injuries in Beaumont.
