Harris urges restraint on all sides as Trump goes rogue on 8 NATO allies

FINANCE Minister Simon Harris called for “cool heads" as Donald Trump threatened 25% tariffs on eight countries if he isn't allowed to acquire Greenland.

The US President vowed to impose a 10% tariff “on all goods” from NATO members the UK, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the Netherlands and Finland starting from February and increasing to 25% from June unless Washington is allowed to buy Greenland from Denmark.

He has not ruled out military action to gain control of what is a semi-autonomous part of the kingdom of Denmark.

Speaking in Brussels, the Tanaiste said: “The destabilising effects of recent geopolitical developments could potentially be enormous.

“That's why it's more important than ever that we seek dialogue - this is a time for cool heads.

“We worked very hard at an EU level to have a trade agreement with the US, an agreement that will ensure economic activity can continue to flow across the Atlantic.

“A trade agreement that is good for the US, Europe, good for Ireland.
