Gosdens' superstar strongly fancied to pull off Craven and Guineas double

- BY NICK ROBSON

RICHARD Hills believes it will take a very smart horse to prevent Field Of Gold from taking Haafhd's mantle as the last Craven Stakes winner to win the 2000 Guineas.

John and Thady Gosden's grey was a hugely impressive winner of the Craven Stakes on his reappearance earlier this month and will attempt to emulate Haafhd, who did the Craven-Guineas double in 2004.

Field Of Gold heads 17 confirmations for the race at Newmarket on Saturday.

Owners Juddmonte also have Andrew Balding's Greenham winner Jonquil and Harry Charlton's Cosmic Year, but have stated they are very unlikely to run all three.

Race sponsors Betred make Field Of Gold 2-1 favourite at the five-day stage, followed by Aidan O'Brien's Twain, who won his maiden and a Group One in the space of just eight days last year.

Hills was on board chestnut colt Haafhd, trained by his father, Barry, for both races in 2004 in his role as retained rider for the late Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum.
