GARDA FACES PRISON ON TEEN ASSAULT RAP

A SERVING garda is facing jail time after he admitted assaulting a teenager on a street, it has emerged.

The Star has learned Eoghan McGowan pleaded guilty to the assault in central Dublin in January 2003.

In the city's district court this week, Judge Michele Finan handed him a four-month jail sentence with half the term suspended.

But McGowan, whose address was given as Store Street station, launched an appeal and was released pending the outcome of that process which is expected to take place next month.
