Officer 'tried to stop victim falling'

A GARDA denies he pushed a man who suffered fatal injuries after hitting his head on the ground.

The 51-year-old passed away in hospital on Monday evening after an alleged altercation outside the Holiday Inn on O'Connell Street, central Dublin, in the early hours of last Friday.

It's alleged he was pushed by the officer and the Garda Ombudsman, now known as Fiosru, is investigating.

Sources say officers initially came upon the man apparently urinating in public and were telling him to move on when the altercation, which was captured on CCTV, occurred.
