Twelve of Ireland's missing people who gardai believe were killed

Dundalk Co Louth, in February 1997 and was never seen again.

In September 2015, officers in the town searched an area of bog and were convinced they would recover her body.

Retired detective inspector Pat Marry previously told us he is convinced the body of Ciara is in the bog where he led the search operation.

Mr Marry received confidential information Ciara had been killed and buried there by criminal Liam Mullen.

Mr Marry then oversaw a search of the bog with gardai and soldiers, and that went on for several weeks, but ended without success.

He said he had Mullen, who died in July 2017, in an interview room in Dundalk Garda station and he believed he was getting ready to own up to the murder when he changed his mind.

Mr Marry said: "Mullen was crying in the interview room, but then he caught hold of himself and changed his mind. He was a few minutes away from admitting it."

WILLIE MAUGHAN AND ANA VARSLAVANE: Willie, 35, and his partner Ana, 22, were last seen on the Dublin-Meath border in April 2015.
