Cartel case adjourned for 5 weeks

LAWYERS for a man facing charges of murder and directing a criminal organisation have told the Special Criminal Court that they are not in a position to indicate whether a trial date will be required.

Sean McGovern's defence counsel Sean Guerin told the three-judge, non-jury court yesterday that “a good deal of work has been done” and some progress has been made in relation to the volume of material in the case.

Mr Guerin suggested that the matter be put back for a period of five weeks “with a view to updating the court at that stage as to the progress that has been made”.
