Hallgrímsson said he was “a little lost for words” when asked for his initial assessment of Ireland's defeat.

“It was so unlike us in so many ways. Both defensively open and indecisive and on the ball too many mistakes,” he argued.

“The assessment of the game, I probably need to see it again to analyse it again tactically.

“Too many players had an off day today and against a good team like this, that was hurt coming into this match, they deservedly won the game.

“That's just my assessment. We were absolutely second best.”
