Ahern & co left too much baggage

Bertie's a bowl one if he eyes the Aras

THERE are times, living in Ireland, that you might be wondering if somebody is slipping Crazy Pills into your tea.

Hearing talk of a Bertie Ahern run for president is one of them.

Seriously, do the apparently sane people who are bigging up a Bertie run for the Aras not remember the lads from the International Monetary Fund arriving into Dublin like the Money Police in 2010, taking the keys off Fianna Fail after they had smashed the country into a brick wall?

There were emergency cuts to Government spending of €15bn. We had to take an emergency loan of €65.7bn and the Irish people footed 42% of the bill for the European banking crisis.

We lost our national sovereignty, less than 100 years after we had to fight to get it. But none of the "leaders" responsible seem to feel any sort of shame at all.
