THE heartbroken family of an elderly farmer claim he did not die of a heart attack and fear his death was more sinister.

- BY SEAN MURPHY

Liam Farrell was officially ruled to have died from a heart attack, aged 87, in Leitrim five years ago.

He had been found dead on the back doorstep of his rural home in January, 2020.

As The Star reported in September last year, the verdict delivered by a jury at Carrick-on-Shannon Coroner's Court was dismissed by his loved ones.

ROBBED

Liam's family members claim he was attacked and robbed at his home and they want the controversial circumstances of his death investigated.

His son Brendan said: “You didn't have to be an expert to know that poor daddy was attacked.

“Even though it was daddy, I didn't recognise him, and that was the first thing that hit me.

“I didn't recognise this is daddy, this is my father.

“There was blood, there were cuts, there were wounds on his hands.
