Vinny: I had to show loyalty to the club... or how could I then expect players to sign for Burnley?

- CHRIS MCKENNA

ROAR DEAL

AFTER leading Burnley back to the top-flight in swashbuckling style, it was little wonder Vincent Kompany was linked with a host of vacancies.

Tottenham were among those casting admiring glances in the Burnley manager's direction, as were Chelsea before focusing on Mauricio Pochettino.

Kompany's response to the speculation was as emphatic as their Championship romp, with the ink having already dried on a new five-year deal at Turf Moor.

But now the building work needed to survive in the top tier begins and Kompany revealed part of the reason for agreeing such a lengthy deal was to help smooth that process.

Without such commitment, Kompany conceded: "So when I try and convince a player to sign for the club they say, 'Yeah, but surely you are going to go, why would I sign for Burnley?"

"We need to turn this around a little bit and this contract helps me actually.
