Prison officer cash grab claim probed

‘Bribe for day release’ investigation

GARDAI are set to investigate claims that a prison officer offered to help prisoners get temporary release - in exchange for money.

The Irish Mirror has learned that an experienced prison officer is also under an internal investigation over the bombshell claims that he elicited cash from lags in exchange for days out.

Irish Prison Service bosses are understood to have referred the matter to An Garda Siochana for a potential criminal investigation, while also investigating the claims themselves.

The officer was confronted with the claims last week and is now facing a full internal disciplinary probe.
