Rooney salutes Kop's £79m Ekitike as Premier League's best summer signing

HUGO'S BOSSED IT

BY LIAM CORLESS WAYNE ROONEY has singled out Hugo Ekitike as the best signing of the summer after his blistering start to life with Liverpool.

The France international has registered eight topflight goals and 11 in all competitions for the Reds since joining from Eintracht Frankfurt for £79million.

He has been Liverpool's most impressive signing - despite the club twice breaking their own transfer record in the summer for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak.

Sweden striker Isak is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a broken leg he suffered while scoring against Tottenham on Saturday.

And the focus on Ekitike to get the goals will increase in the coming weeks.

But while Wirtz and Isak have taken their time bedding in at Liverpool, Ekitike hit the ground running with three goals in his first three games.
