Ant's blast after defeat by 'not very good' Black Cats

- REBECCA JOHNSON

ANTHONY GORDON claimed Sunderland are “not a very good team” compared to Newcastle as he expressed his frustrations at a Tyne-Wear derby defeat.

Four days after exiting the Champions League with a 7-2 loss in Barcelona, the Magpies were beaten 2-1 by their arch-rivals at St James’ Park.

Gordon put the hosts in front after capitalising on a mistake from a Sunderland goal-kick, but Chemsdine Talbi levelled after the break and Brian Brobbey (below) scored a 90th-minute winner.

The defeat was Toon's second to Sunderland this season after being beaten 1-0 in December's reverse fixture at the Stadium of Light and Gordon admitted they struggled in the second half.

DEATH OF SIR GINO

DEVASTATED Nicky Henderson paid tribute to “unforgettable” Sir Gino (left) yesterday after the star hurdler lost his battle with ill health. The winner of seven of his eight races had been fighting an infection for around seven weeks, which developed while he was beginning his recovery from a fractured pelvis. Vets had given the former Champion Hurdle favourite round-the-clock care since he was pulled up with the issue when trialling for the Festival race at Cheltenham in January.
