Flavonoids in apples, berries & citrus boost
Irish Daily Mirror
|January 29, 2026
A DIET rich in flavonoids such as apples, berries and citrus fruit may help people to feel happier and more optimistic, Irish experts have found.
The research, by Queen's University Belfast and the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, is one of the first major studies to examine the compound's role in psychological wellbeing.
Flavonoids occur naturally and are present in several fruits, tea, dark chocolate and red wine.
The study, which has been published in Clinical Nutrition, drew on followup data over 18 years from the US Nurses' Health Study, of thousands of women.
