THREE Faithfuls - Vanessa O'Brien, Oyin Adeyemi and Kelley Higgins - took down Traitors Nick O'Loughlin and Ben Donohue as they were crowned winners of the first series of The Traitors Ireland.

- BY SANDRA MALLON Showbiz Editor

In a nail-biting final episode, Kelley, Vanessa and Oyin were the last three standing around the firepit with host Siobhan McSweeney last night on the RTE One show.

They chose to end the game, trusting each other that they were all Faithfuls and split the cash prize of €42,900 after they managed to banish Ben and Nick earlier in the evening.

Viewers watched as Nick was finally unmasked as a traitor by Oyin, Kelley, Vanessa and Ben.

As the estate agent was banished from the castle, Nick said: "Today will go down as one of the best days of our lives. I'm delighted to be there for it. What an experience, I love you all. It's only a game.

"Paudie was half right. I am a traitor."

But in a final twist in the show, host Siobhan McSweeney revealed: "Our remaining players have a simple choice to make.

"If they believe all are faithful, they can stop the game in the hope of splitting the cash prize.

CRITICAL

"If they believe a traitor is in their midst, well they can banish again.

"If there is a traitor left in the end, they will walk off with the cash prize. Every choice they make from now on will be critical."

The remaining contestants chose to vote again, believing they still had a traitor lurking in their midst.

They all voted to banish Ben.

Speaking after he was banished, Ben said: "It's been an absolute pleasure.
