Driver 'surrenders himself' at airport having 'returned on his own volition'

A COURIER arrested at Dublin Airport as he disembarked from a flight from Poland appeared in court yesterday over a fatal hit-and-run that killed an elderly cyclist.

Connolly Hospital in Blanchardstown following a significant investigation he contacted the accused in Poland and “he returned on his own volition”.

The motor vehicle involved is alleged to have failed to remain at the scene.

Sergeant Eoin Treacy gave evidence of arrest, charge and caution.

He said the charges were translated into Polish for the accused who made “no reply” after caution.
