BREASTCHECK MISSES TARGETS 2 YEARS IN ROW

THE HSE's BreastCheck national screening service has missed its targets for two years in a row, new figures show.

The service's target last year was for 195,000 women and others to be screened, but BreastCheck performed just 137,134 checks.

For the previous year, 2023, the target was 185,000 people to be screened, but the service only performed 166,532 checks.

BreastCheck is a free breast screening programme for those aged 50 to 69 years, usually around every two years.

The figures were secured in a parliamentary question submitted by Aontu leader Peadar Toibin.
