Vipotnik pushes sad City further into drop trouble
Hull Daily Mail
|April 19, 2025
A dreadful refereeing decision helped Swansea City beat Hull City 1-0 in South Wales to heap more relegation worry on the Tigers who are now just two points above the drop zone with three games to go.
City were a goal behind early in the second half yet again, but this time, it was from a penalty that should never have been given when the ball appeared to hit John Egan in the face, but fussy referee Ben Toner, after an age, pointed to the spot and from that kick, Zan Vipotnik sent Ivor Pandur the wrong way.
In truth, the Tigers delivered another low-key performance against the in-form Swans.
But the manner of the goal they conceded will anger Ruben Selles and his players, and changed the complexion of the contest in the second period.
And to compound matters, Matt Crooks picked up two yellow cards after coming off the bench and was sent off in added time.
Selles made one change to the side which drew 1-1 with Coventry City on Monday night, with Gustavo Puerta coming back into the starting XI at the expense of Steven Alzate, who dropped to the bench.
After coming off early against the Sky Blues, Egan was fine to play, as was skipper Lewie Coyle after complaining of slight hamstring tightness.
