Jamie Peacock: It stinks
Hull Daily Mail
|August 05, 2025
THERE'S a great quote in George Orwell's Animal Farm that reads: "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.
-
That perfectly sums up how I feel about an 'independent panel' essentially picking the last two clubs to get in Super League next season after this week's decision to increase to 14. It stinks.
The top 12 is decided by a fair, transparent, clear structure: the IMG grading process. It's a whole, round, approach to the club that will get you into Super League and not just centred on what you do on the pitch. That's great as it gives you clarity, it gives you something to work towards and will, on the whole, lift the quality of the clubs in Super League.
You won't just have clubs who run a skeleton operation: have a great team on the pitch and nothing behind it. But to pick the 13th and 14th clubs via a panel just reeks. It's very opaque. If I was a fan of any club - other than London or Bradford - I'd be really worried as to whether they'd get a fair shot at getting into Super League.
