20mph speed limit zone approved for Hull's Old Town

HULL City Council has approved work to implement a new 20mph zone in Hull's Old Town area, as part of the safety improvement scheme for Lowgate.

It aims to reduce the risk of accidents near Hull College, as well as the retail and entertainment venues between George Street and the A63 Castle Street, the council says. The zone will also cover Savile Street, Vernon Street, Queens Dock Avenue, Princes Dock Street, Guildhall Road, Alfred Gelder Street and the side streets off Lowgate that border the River Hull.

Following the approval, the council is now in the process of completing the traffic regulation order (TRO) for the speed limit change, as well as putting up signage to mark the 20mph limit. Work is anticipated to be completed by late summer.
