Talks between Maratha quota agitation leader, Maha govt fail

The stalemate over the Maratha quota issue continued on Tuesday after a delegation of Maharashtra government failed to convince Manoj Jarange-Patil, who has been observing a hunger strike since August 29 demanding reservation for the community, to end the protest.
Jarange gave the government four days to issue an order declaring Marathas from Marathwada region as Kunbis (a subcaste) and extending reservation benefits under the other backward classes (OBC) category.
The state government delegation led by rural development minister Girish Mahajan and comprising his cabinet colleagues Sandipan Bhumre and Atul Save met Jarange at Antarvali village in Jalna on Tuesday evening and urged him to withdraw the protest.
"We are giving four days to the government. If the government fails to issue GR (resolution) on the Maratha reservation, I will quit water, juice and IV fluids," Jarange told Mahajan.
