Q3 growth will offset Q2 slowdown: Sitharaman

The third quarter of current fiscal year will make up for the slower second quarter growth rate, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Friday, adding that the blip was temporary and "not systemic," which was an outcome of administrative focus shifting from capital expenditure to the general election.
Sitharaman said the Centre and states' preoccupation with the general elections in the first quarter (April-June 2024) had some bearing on the second quarter (July-September 2024), which was transitory.
"I am elaborating this just to say, it is not a systemic slowdown, it is more absence of activity on public expenditure, capital expenditure and so on. So, I expect quarter three (October-December 2024) to make up for all this," she said in a conversation with 15th Finance Commission chairman NK Singh at an event organised by think tank Ananta Centre.
