PM gets Egypt's highest state honour, diaspora hails visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was on Sunday conferred with Egypt's highest honour - "Order of the Nile" - by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi in Cairo as he wrapped up his twoday State visit to the country marked by a several bilateral agreements and a rousing welcome by the Indian diaspora who described the experience of meeting him as "unique" and a day of "celebration".

NEW DELHI: Instituted in 1915, the "Order of the Nile" is conferred upon heads of states, crown princes, and vice presidents who offer Egypt or humanity invaluable services. This is the 13th such highest state honour bestowed on the PM by various countries over the last nine years.
Taking to Twitter handle, PM Modi expressed his gratitude for the honour. "It is with great humility that I accept the Order of the Nile. I thank the Government and people of Egypt for this honour. It indicates the warmth and affection they have towards India and the people of our nation," he tweeted in English and Arabic.
