J&K Govt Shuts, Restricts Access To 48 Tourist Destinations

The J&K government has closed or restricted unhindered access to nearly 50 tourist destinations and trekking trails in vulnerable areas of the Kashmir Valley citing security reasons after last week's Pahalgam terror attack, officials said on Tuesday.

The tourist destinations that have been down for the time being in view of the threat perception include 48 of the 87 meadows, trekking trails, hilly areas, parks or gardens in Kashmir, officials said.

Officials said the government decided to close these destinations for the "safety of the tourists" in the wake of April 22 terror attack in the popular Besaran meadow in Pahalgam left 25 tourists and one local dead. The incident shocked the nation and prompted a flight of tourists and visitors from the Valley.
