Govt slams Stalin on 'Hindi imposition' remark

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday slammed Tamil Nadu chief minister MK Stalin for accusing the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to impose Hindi on the southern state by naming three bills that seek to replace the British-era criminal laws in Hindi, saying "such petty politics" may serve his political ambition but weakens the democracy.
Pradhan's reaction came a day after Stalin reignited the debate over Hindi imposition and criticised the introduction of three new criminal bills, which seek to replace the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860, the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1973, and the Indian Evidence Act, 1872.
"Such petty politics may serve Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin's political ambitions well, but it weakens the spirit of India," Pradhan posted on X (formerly Twitter).
