Derivatives see a tug-of-war between FPI, retail investors

Individuals hold 85,251 net shorts; FPIs hold 84,690 net longs as of December 22

A battle of nerves has built up in India's derivatives market with foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) betting the indices will rise further, while an opposing camp of retail and wealthy investors is equally convinced they can correct.
Even as markets have hit record highs, National Stock Exchange's (NSE's) Client category-comprising largely highnet-worth individuals (HNIS) and retail investors-has taken a sizeable bearish position on index futures contracts, mainly the Nifty and the Bank Nifty, while FPIs have a bullish position on them.
NSE data showed that Client held 85,251 cumulative net short contracts as of December 22, while FPIs held 84,690 net long contracts.

'WE SHOULD STOP USING THE TERM PAN-INDIA ACTOR'
Priya Mani Raj, who is set for the release of The Family Man Season 3 next month, has worked in both regional and Hindi industries, but is averse to the tag of “pan-India actor”. Expressing her disapproval, she says, “We're all Indian at the end of the day. You get work in other industries, and that's a good thing, but you don't call someone a ‘regional actor’ when they come from Bollywood to the South. For years, actors from both sides have worked across languages. Why are we suddenly labeling them now? Accept us for who we are and for the characters we play.”
