A senior army officer on Tuesday apologised to the families of the three men allegedly tortured to death inside a 48 RR camp on Thursday, a family member of one of the deceased said, adding that the army has given cash compensation of 10 lakh each and the civil administration handed over cheques of 20 lakh each to the next of kin of the men.
"A team of officials comprising the deputy magistrate of Poonch, Choudhary Mohammad Yasin, SSP Vinay Kumar, and Brigadier MP Singh of 16 RR from Potha in Rajouri had come to Topa Peer village to meet the families today," said Javed Ahmed, who was present in the meeting.
"Brigadier MP Singh admitted that a crime has been committed and assured that the guilty will not be spared. The officer handed over cash compensation of 10 lakh each while the deputy magistrate handed over cheques of 20 lakh each to the next of kin of the three men," said Ahmed.
Following the custodial killings, the families had demanded a compensation of ₹30 lakh each and government jobs.
"For jobs, the officials took all the details from the three families, like educational certificates, Aadhaar cards, etc. The deputy magistrate assured us that one government job each would soon be provided to the three families," he said.
