Amber to Hawa Mahal, a taste of Jaipur's best

A roadshow through a cheering crowd in the heart of the walled city, a stop for masala chai at one of Jaipur's most iconic tea stalls, visits to the Amber Fort and Hawa Mahal where he interacted with artisans and watched traditional folk dances, ending with dinner at Rambagh Palace - Jaipur put on a six-hour show for French President Emmanuel Macron on Thursday.
President Macron arrived in Jaipur a little before 2.30pm on Thursday, and was received at Jaipur airport amid tight security by external affairs minister S Jaishankar, Rajasthan governor Kalraj Mishra, and chief minister Bhajan Lal Sharma. His first stop in the day was a two-hour tour of the 16th century Amber Fort, perched atop the Aravallis that look out over the Rajasthan capital. He was taken around by Rajasthan deputy chief minister Diya Kumari, who is from the royal family of Jaipur.
