5K old vehicles fined in Delhi; NCR cities begin crackdown

More than 5,000 BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel light vehicles, which are not allowed to ply in Delhi after the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) implemented stage 4 of the graded response action plan (Grap) due to the prevailing pollution crisis, have been prosecuted since November 2, traffic police officers and transport department officials aware of the matter said on Tuesday.

Separately, the Haryana government on Tuesday announced a ban on commercial and private BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel light motor vehicles plying in Gurugram and Faridabad, adding that violators will be fined Rs 20,000. A ban on such vehicles has been in place in Noida since November 3, and the Uttar Pradesh government barred these vehicles from plying in Ghaziabad on Tuesday.
