5 Maoists gunned down in Bastar encounter, two personnel injured

Security forces shot dead at least five Maoists in an encounter in the Bastar region of Chhattisgarh on Saturday, officers aware of the matter said—the latest in a string of operations against Left Wing Extremism (LWE) in the region.
The gunfight broke out after a joint team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and Border Security Force (BSF) launched a search operation along the Abujhmad forest on the border of Kanker and Narayanpur districts on Friday night, the Bastar range police said in a statement.
"So far, the bodies of five Maoists have been recovered in the ongoing operation," the statement said, adding that two personnel were also injured in the encounter and their condition was stable. The identities of the deceased were yet to be established.
