Experts warn of addiction risks in pain medicine usage

As advancements in pain relief and rehabilitation medicine continue, medical experts caution that prolonged use of certain pain medications, including opioids like morphine, may lead to addiction, making it difficult for patients to quit.
LUCKNOW:
Doctors from various specialties, including oncology, anesthesiology, pain medicine, and critical care, acknowledge that while pain management drugs play a crucial role in treating critical patients, they also pose a risk of dependency.
Dr. Sarita from the anesthesiology department at King George's Medical University (KGMU) said, "Morphine is highly effective in cancer treatment but requires careful administration to prevent addiction."
"The dosage must be controlled. The amount required for intravenous administration is three times higher than the dose needed for oral intake," she explained.
