A land acquisition drive for the Tasra coal project of Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) on Friday turned violent after protesting locals clashed with the police in Asanbani village under Baliapur block of Dhanbad district, officials said.
According to officials, the district administration acquired around 41 acres of land under the supervision of Baliapur circle officer (CO) Praveen Kumar Singh and district land acquisition officer Ram Narayan Khalko, amid heavy deployment of police, including women personnel. The acquisition is part of a larger plan to develop a township adjacent to Sindri for families displaced by the Tasra project.
