Ansari asked to appear in defamation case

Jharkhand health, medical education, and family welfare minister Dr Irfan Ansari is expected to appear before the MP-MLA court on May 9 in a defamation case filed by a yoga teacher and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Rafia Naaz, for allegedly defaming her and provoking Muslim community members against her during a debate on an electronic media channel in August 2020.
RANCHI: Jharkhand health, medical education, and family welfare minister Dr Irfan Ansari is expected to appear before the MP-MLA court on May 9 in a defamation case filed by a yoga teacher and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Rafia Naaz, for allegedly defaming her and provoking Muslim community members against her during a debate on an electronic media channel in August 2020.
A civil court lawyer close to the matter told HT that the court had issued a summons for the first time on February 24 this year. "The first time, they issued the summons on February 24 this year in the matter and fixed March 3 for the appearance of Dr Ansari. After this, the next date was fixed for May 9," the lawyer said.
