Raj to bring cooperative law to regulate housing societies: Min

Urban development and housing minister, Jhabar Singh Kharra on Friday announced that the state government is in the process of creating a new cooperative law.

JAIPUR: This new legislation will include special provisions to regulate housing cooperative societies and prevent irregularities often carried out by private colonies.

"The new cooperative law aims to ensure greater accountability and control in the real estate sector, addressing concerns over unregulated developments and providing a framework for better governance in housing projects," he said.

The minister said the issue of unapproved colonies was developed by the private sector. Many colonies are developed without approval from local authorities, lacking essential facilities, which negatively impacts the general public. "The new Cooperative Act would mandate the development of all necessary infrastructure in colonies built by housing cooperative societies. Strict penalties would be enforced for violations of these regulations," said Kharra.

During question hour, Kharra explained that housing cooperative societies are registered under the Cooperative Act, but currently, there are no specific provisions for taking action against irregularities by registered housing societies. The new legislation would address this gap and ensure better regulation and accountability in the sector.

Speaker of the Assembly, Vasudev Devnani, intervened, highlighting that the issue of illegal colonies is not just limited to Bagru but is a statewide problem. He emphasised that clear rules and guidelines should be established to address this issue, along with raising awareness among the general public.
