Official: 2 painted stork chicks die of bird flu

Two painted stork chicks have died due to bird flu at the Keoladeo National Bird Sanctuary in Bharatpur,

JAIPUR: Three cases of Guillian-Barre syndrome (GBS), a neurological condition, have been reported in Sikar, state health department officials said on Wednesday, adding that the patients are undergoing treatment in a private hospital in Jaipur.

Dr Ravi Prakash Sharma, director of public health in the state health department, said: "Four suspected cases of GBS were reported and after tests, GBS was confirmed in three of them. The patients are residents of Sikar. They were admitted to a private hospital there. We carried out blood tests in the microbiology lab in SMS hospital and GBS was confirmed. It is not a contagious illness so there is no cause for alarm."

He said the health department has held a video conference with all district CMHOs and they have been asked to stay on alert.
