Hindustan Times Noida
|March 11, 2025
Kannada actress Ranya Rao's alleged involvement in the gold smuggling case has triggered a political slugfest in Karnataka with the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP trading charges of favouritism and cover-up.
BENGALURU:
Rao, who was arrested a week ago for allegedly smuggling gold worth ₹12 crore from Dubai, was on Monday sent to judicial custody till March 24 in connection with the case. The involvement of Rao, who is the stepdaughter of K Ramachandra Rao, a DGP-ranked police officer serving as Chairman and Managing Director of the Karnataka State Police Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd, has triggered a massive political slugfest in the state.
