Punjab Police has suspended the Tarn Taran Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) in charge following allegations that he provided clearance to revoke the passport suspension of a Batala-born international drug lord, who allegedly managed to flee India, officers said.

- Ravinder Vasudeva

Shehnaz Singh, alias Shawn Bhinder, who is wanted by the US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), was arrested in March last year from Ludhiana by Punjab Police during the state's antidrug Yudh Nashian Virudh campaign. He secured bail from the high court nearly two months ago, and subsequently, he applied to the Regional Passport Office to revoke the suspension of his passport, they added.
