HC: Minor rape victims seeking abortion must get prompt aid

The Delhi high court has issued a set of guidelines to ensure "prompt legal and medical assistance" for minor victims of rape seeking termination of pregnancy.
NEW DELHI: The court said the directions aimed to eliminate delays and confusion, particularly for those from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma, while passing the order on April 17, observed that such victims are often unaware of the correct legal forums and procedures needed to seek medical termination of pregnancy after sexual assault.
The court said that clear protocols must be in place to provide timely legal aid and medical care to vulnerable survivors of sexual violence.
