Fresh promises ahead of polls
NEW DELHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) convener Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said that the Delhi government schemes on utilities - 200 units of free electricity and 20,000 litres of free water per month per family - will also be extended to all tenants in the Capital if his party returns to power in the upcoming assembly elections.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, dismissed Kejriwal's promises, accusing him of "colluding" with power discoms in order to exploit the people of Delhi.
Speaking at a press conference at AAP headquarters, Kejriwal said that tenants in Delhi, despite being residents of the city, are unable to access these benefits due to the existing system where water and electricity connections are usually registered in landlords' names.
"I have been travelling to various places in Delhi, engaging with people. For the residents of Delhi, we have made electricity free, water free, and extended other significant benefits. Electricity up to 200 units is entirely free, and for consumption between 200 and 400 units, the rates are halved. Additionally, 20,000 litres of water per month are provided for free," he said.
