LoP's 'falsehood' damaging nation abroad, says EAM

External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Monday accused Lok Sabha's Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi of deliberate "falsehood" and damaging "the nation abroad" after the latter said in the Lower House that the minister went to the US in December last year to secure an invitation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi at President Donald Trump's inauguration.

"Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi deliberately spoke a falsehood about my visit to the US in December 2024...Rahul Gandhi's lies may be intended politically. But they damage the nation abroad," Jaishankar posted on X.
Gandhi, who was participating in a debate on the President's address on January 31, contended that both the US and China were ahead of India in critical technologies and said that if India began working on these issues, the American president would himself invite the Indian PM to his inauguration.
