PARL COMMITTEE ON ONOP TO MEET FOR FIRST TIME ON JANUARY 8

The first meeting of the 39-member joint parliamentary committee on simultaneous elections has been scheduled for January 8 during which representatives from the ministry of law and justice are expected to brief the lawmakers on the contours of the bills, people aware of the matter said on Monday.

Setting the tone for nationwide deliberations on the key poll reform measure of the BJP-led NDA government, the development comes a week after a panel of 39 lawmakers from the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha were named as members of the JPC to be headed by Bharatiya Janata Party lawmaker PP Chaudhary.
