Over 10k Indians lodged in foreign prisons, 49 on death row: Govt in Parl

More than 10,000 Indians are currently lodged in various foreign prisons with 49 of them being on death row, the government said in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday in a response to a question by an Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) parliamentarian.

Giving details of Indians incarcerated in foreign prisons, the external affairs ministry (MEA) said that a total of 10,152 were lodged in jail in various countries. The maximum, 2,633, were imprisoned in Saudi Arabia, closely followed by 2,518 in the United Arab Emirates.
