VARANASI: To make the city roads and lanes free of encroachment, a constable each will keep a watch on every 100-metre stretch of road and every 50-metre stretch of a lane in Varanasi. The step being taken under a special drive aims to stop the recurrence of encroachment that causes traffic jams.
"A plan under encroachment removing drive has been made under which a constable each will be assigned duty to keep an eye on every 100-metre stretch of road and 50-metre stretch of lanes in city localities, including Kotwali, Chowk, Dashashwamedh, and Luxa, Bhelupur, Assi, and Lanka," said deputy commissioner of police (crime) Sarvanan T. Each constable will keep a watch on the stretch of the road assigned to him and will stop any encroachment.
He will ensure legal action against habitual encroachers.
